Custer State Park Buffalo "An Aerial Perspective" personal project by Robb Long

This personal project I created at Custer State Park, SD in July, 2014. It was, by far, a once in a lifetime experience that i'll take with me the rest of my life. Not only did I get to film right next to these gigantic magnificent buffalo, but I got front row seats from my guide/family friend Chad the Herd Manager for Custer State Park. After driving out into the park to search for the herd we spotted them along a high ridge quite a distance from the pavement. Luckily, like me he's a jeep guy and we headed out onto a pretty rough 'official use only' trail ride on a set of 37' tall tires! As we bounced around and worked our way closer to the herd I received a crash course on Bull Buffalo behavior so I didn't end up getting chased down. Just as the beefed up LJ that had a personalized plate reading "JeepBuf" crawled over a steep ridge we saw the herd. There they were, hundreds of Buffalo roaming and grazing the beautiful grasses of the prairie as far as the eye could see. This was by far one of the most amazing sites I'd ever seen. The view was so amazing I felt myself getting emotional over the sheer beauty of these once endangered species.
